While we all know that losing weight and keeping it off takes time and dedication and that trying to achieve quick results can be dangerous to our health, we still find ourselves shelling out for these new diet solutions. Instead of relying on the latest fad or going overboard on dieting or exercising, what Americans really need to do is learn the secret of how just a few small changes can lead to lasting results at the waistline.
Drinking Water
Drinking more water is one of the best things that you can do in order to achieve your New Year's Resolution of going down several pant's sizes. Getting in eight glasses of water a day is high recommended to help aid with elimination and speed up weight loss. If you have trouble with drinking just plain old water, try alternating it with your favorite beverage or add some juice to it to give it some flavor. Juice can also count towards your daily water input but beware that juice is generally high in sugar and calories.
Exercise
Burning those calories through rigorous exercise is one of the surest ways to control your weight. If you lack the will power or time to get to the gym every day, try incorporating exercise into your daily routine. Take the stairs for example, or park farther away from the store so you have to walk further. If you are committed to an exercise routine, make sure you do not over do it in the beginning and turn yourself off of exercise before you even get started. Go into gradually, building up a tolerance.
Supplements
Making sure you are getting all of your vitamins and minerals can help stave off hunger and keep your metabolism in check. A number of studies have found that getting enough calcium is important for a healthy metabolism; it was found that dieters who got enough calcium were able to burn calories more efficiently than dieters who did not. Chromium is another important mineral when it comes to weight loss. It helps to regulate blood sugar, improving your metabolism and even eliminating the symptoms of fatigue that many dieters tend to experience.
These small changes along with a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables will end up giving better and long lasting results than any of those fad diets out there.
